Manchester City v Tottenham – Under 2,5
All of Tottenham’s last seven games have gone under two and a half goals. Forget the images of Gareth Bale rampaging down the wing and cutting inside to score, or of Tottenham’s free-flowing passing game, and focus instead on the fact that goals are now hard to come by in Spurs matches.
This perhaps surprising statistic is given even greater weight when you consider their last five opponents – Norwich, Swansea, West Brom, Everton, and Wolves – all sides whom Spurs would have expected to put to the sword.
And don’t expect Man City to come wading-in with goals either. The goals-happy days of early season are now long gone, as shown by the stats. Only one of City’s last five away games went over the goals mark. That’s five games in which Sergio Aguero, Edin Dzeko and City’s other superstars could only score three goals between them.
The loss of driving-force Yaya Toure has clearly hurt City’s goalscoring prowess, while the dip in form of recently-injured David Silva was always going to be hugely damaging too.
Osasuna v Valencia – Under 2,5
Sixth plays third at Reyno De Navarra stadium, in a game where both sides’ attentions will be on the prospect of Champions League football.
Valencia hold one of those coveted Euro spots, but will be concerned to see the pack hot on their trail, especially when their form seems to have deserted them slightly. Two defeats and a draw in the last four games have effectively killed any title ambitions Valencia may have had, and at the same time have reignited the Euro ambitions of those behind them. Last week’s 1-0 home loss to Real Sociedad was particularly shocking.
Just four of Valencia’s nine away games have gone over the goals mark. So given their poor form, it’s hard to see Los Che improving that record away to a very solid Osasuna side. The ‘Little Red Ones’ have put in some big performances at home this season, losing just one of their nine games in Pamplona. Importantly, Osasuna have kept four clean sheets in those nine matches, meaning Valencia will need to up their game if they’re to make a breakthrough on Sunday.
